A number of local crafters have agreed to open their workshops so that visitors to Stronsay can experience first-hand the creative side of the island. Visitors can learn about and perhaps even try their hand at a variety of crafts, including textiles, glass work, soap making, wool dyeing, spinning and weaving. This is a good way to get to know not only how artists sustain their livelihoods in present-day Stronsay but also learn about the heritage of crafters in Stronsay through the ages – even as far back as the Vikings and pre-historic inhabitants of the island.
