Stronsay Heritage Centre

Stronsay Heritage Centre

Anticipating a move in 2024 to its permanent location in a renovated chapel located just outside Whitehall village, the Stronsay Heritage Centre has found a temporary home in Wood’s Yard, a series of community-owned business units on the west side of the village. The centre displays a number of unique artefacts donated and collected by generations of Stronsay residents and ex-pats, showcasing domestic life, the herring fishing industry, agriculture and the Second World War. Large collections of photographs, family history information, articles and maps have been made available, and the self-service hot drink stand and comfy chairs make it the perfect place for visitors to settle in and learn more about the island’s history and culture. The centre is run by volunteers and overseen by a newly established Stronsay Heritage Society, under the umbrella of the Stronsay Development Trust.
